AMANO by Tiles of Ezra

Amanoby Tiles of Ezra

Amano — Spanish for "by hand" — is exactly that. Every pattern is hand-drawn by Tiles of Ezra founder Georgia Ezra, hand-painted by artisans in Vietnam using centuries-old silkscreen methods, and hand-fired in small batches. No two tiles are identical, and they were never meant to be.

Inventory is fluid and lead times on select collections are currently extended. To confirm availability for your project, contact sales@alexanderjames.shop.

The Story Behind Amano

Living works of art, made by hand

Drawing on Mediterranean tile tradition and the visual language of hand-pulled prints, each Amano pattern begins as a drawing in Georgia Ezra's own hand. Skilled artisans translate it through centuries-old silkscreen methods, painting and firing every tile individually.

The result is living, tactile color — depth and movement that a machine-made tile can't reproduce. Use Amano for decorative accents on backsplashes, vanities, window surrounds, fireplaces and feature walls, in residential and commercial spaces alike.

Good to Know

Frequently asked

How is Amano made?

Every pattern is hand-drawn by Tiles of Ezra founder Georgia Ezra, then hand-painted by artisans in Vietnam using traditional silkscreen techniques and hand-fired in small batches. The process is the reason each tile carries its own subtle character.

Can Amano be used on floors?

Amano is not floor-rated. It's intended for walls and decorative accents — backsplashes, vanities, window surrounds, fireplace surrounds and feature walls — and is rated for both residential and commercial use, including wet areas, when correctly installed.

Is it suitable for showers and wet areas?

Yes — Amano is wet-area rated for walls when installed by a qualified tradesperson in line with applicable building codes and industry standards. It is not rated for floors, including shower floors.

Will my tiles look like the samples and photos?

Expect variation. Because Amano is hand-painted and hand-fired, tone, glaze and line shift from tile to tile and between batches — this is the character of handmade tile, not a defect. Order your full quantity together where possible, and view samples in your own lighting before committing.

How do I order a sample?

Order samples directly from the products below and experience the glaze in your own light. For trade pricing, quantity estimates or finish selection, contact sales@alexanderjames.shop and we'll guide you.
