Marquetry
Marquetry.
Pattern as the moment — vintage-inflected wood style inlay porcelain patterns with the durability for high-traffic residential floors.
Three vintage-inflected porcelain patterns — Tivoli, Pisa, and Positano — each a complete decorative design in a 10"x10" polished porcelain format. PEI 5 (highest residential floor rating), indoor only, optimized for focal-point installs rather than wall-to-wall fields. Powder room floors, entryways, framed accent areas, kitchen islands. Designers typically use 10-30 square feet rather than full-room coverage to preserve the pattern's impact.

Marquetry tiles are decorative patterns rather than field tile — each tile is a complete repeating motif, intended for a focal-point install rather than a wall-to-wall field. Common applications: powder room floors, entryway feature areas, kitchen islands, fireplace surrounds, framed accent walls. Designers typically use 10-30 square feet rather than full-room coverage to preserve the pattern's impact.
The 10x10 format was selected as the optimal scale for the pattern repeats — large enough that the design reads clearly from across a room, small enough to install in tight focal areas like powder rooms or insets. Larger sizes would reduce visual rhythm; smaller would lose detail. The single-size constraint is intentional to the design.
Marquetry's polished finish and decorative pattern design are optimized for refined indoor applications — entryways, powder rooms, kitchens, framed accent walls. The collection is PEI 5 (highest residential floor rating) but isn't tested or rated for outdoor exposure, pool surrounds, or wet showers. Other porcelain collections in the Alexander James line cover those use cases.
Each pattern (Tivoli, Pisa, Positano) is a separate decorative design within the Marquetry collection — different visual motifs but unified by the same 10"x10" format, polished finish, and PEI 5 floor rating. Designers typically pick one pattern as a focal-point install rather than mixing patterns within a single field. The names reference Italian regions, but the pattern designs themselves draw from broader vintage marquetry traditions.
